WINTER PARK - Sweeping both the doubles and singles matches, 9th-ranked Rollins defeated #25 Florida Southern, 9-0, Wednesday in the final Sunshine State Conference match of 2011 for both teams.
The Moccasins (11-7, 3-3) nearly avoided the shutout early when Benoit Paradis and C.J. Johnson battled Nick Rowlands and Jason Alabaster at #2 doubles, but the Rollins duo pulled out an 8-6 win that gave the Tars (13-7, 4-2) a 3-0 lead after doubles. Johnson would go on to win his first set at #4 singles against David Yawalkar, but the closest Florida Southern came to breaking through came at the #3 position where Brian deMontfort also lost in three sets to Sebastian Hafner, 6-2, 5-7, 11-9.
Florida Southern will play its final non-conference match of the regular season on Monday when it travels to West Palm Beach to take on Palm Beach Atlantic at 3:00 p.m.
