One day after beating Morehouse 5-0 to advance to the second round of the NCAA South Region Tournament, 25th-ranked Florida Southern saw that score turned around in a 5-0 loss to top-ranked Valdosta State.The Moccasins end the season with a 15-9 record, while the Blazers (16-1) advance to the region final to face #8 West Florida.
Florida Southern came closest to preventing the shutout at #3 doubles where Jorge Gutierrez and Nathan Leavitt fell to Bernhard Wallner and Konstantin Kutschenko, 8-5. Valdosta State then secured the match when Luis Loeffler downed C.J. Johnson at #4 singles 6-0, 6-1, and Daniel Dueren defeated Benoit Paradis 6-1, 6-1.
Tuesday's match between Valdosta State and West Florida will be their third meeting of the season, with the Blazers winning in the regular season and the Gulf South Conference championship match.
