Thirteen different players scored at least one goal en route to a 24-2 Moccasin win over Lees-McRae Tuesday night. The victory marked another milestone for the Moccasins’ first-year program, giving the team its first road win, and third victory overall.Â
The Moccasins struck first as Katie Ferree found Maureen Cromer for the first goal of the game. Caitlin Chase and Megan Asper followed with unassisted goals to give the Mocs a 3-0 advantage. Chase then connected with Lorianne Hoover twice to extend the lead to 5-0.
The Moccasins scored four more unanswered goals to take a 9-0 lead with 19:30 remaining in the first half. After a Bobcats' goal, Ferree and Alexa Caffrey tallied back-to-back goals that extended the lead to 11-1.
After the two teams traded goals, the Moccasins scored five unanswered goals to take a 17-2 advantage at half.
It was a similar story in the second half, as the Moccasins outscored the Bobcats 7-0, for the 24-2 final.
Kiani Carroll, Meghan Colucci, Erin Duke, Rachel Ziter, and Taylor Perry all scored their first career goal in the game. Carroll’s three-goal performance marked her first career hat trick as well.
Katie Hammerer and Lindsay Holdway each played a half in goal, combining for three saves on five shots.
Asper led the Moccasins with seven draw controls and five ground balls, while tallying four points. Colucci picked up four ground balls, while Hoover led the Mocs with five points.
The Moccasins complete their two-game road trip Thursday, when they travel to Due West, S.C, to face Erskine. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
