Mocs Win Opener In Dramatic Fashion, 3-2

Colin Kish hit a roller barely fair down the third base line into short left field to score Cory Jensen with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give the Moccasins a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Young Harris in their season opener Friday night at Henley Field.

The Moccasin rally started when T.J. Kuban reached on a dropped pop fly by Young Harris second baseman Mike Medori. Kyle Gibbs' sacrifice bunt moved Kuban to second. Jensen drilled a single into right field to score Kuban and took second on the throw to the plate. After Jimmy Correnti moved Jensen to third on an infield out, Kish delivered his game-winning hit on an 0-1 pitch.

Mike Czenszak, who pitched a scoreless ninth inning in relief, picked up his first collegiate win. Young Harris closer Tyler Isbell, who had gotten the final out in the eighth inning, took the loss.

The Moccasins' ninth-inning runs ended a a seven-inning scoreless duel by the pitching staffs. Young Harris reached Moccasin starter Jon Jones for two runs in the first on a sacrifice fly by Jack Morrow and an RBI-single by David Atwood. The Moccasin answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, with Kish scoring on an infield out by Kyle Jackson, and that was all the scoring until the ninth. Young Harris left the bases loaded in the sixth, while the Moccasins left the bases loaded in the second and left two runners on in the eighth.

Jones pitched 5.2 innings, striking out eight and walking two. Austin Jackson worked 2.1 scoreless innings before Czenszak entered in the ninth.

The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. at Henley Field.
