Fuglesang and Gibbs combine to give Mocs a split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Matt Fuglesang pitched a complete game, while Kyle Gibbs hit a triple and scored the game-winning run to give the Moccasins a 2-1 win in the second game of the doubleheader over Young Harris College Saturday afternoon at Henley Field. Young Harris won the first game 6-2. With the split Florida Southern improves its record to 2-1, while Young Harris falls to 1-2.

In the first game, Austin Chubb hit a solo home run to give the Moccasins a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

Chubb would strike again in the fourth inning. Mike Snyder led off the inning with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on a Kyle Jackson single. Chubb hit a single down the left field line to score Snyder and give the Mocs a 2-0 lead.

The Mountain Lions responded with two in the top of the fifth inning. Bowen Klosinski reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a Dom Wyshinski single. Mike Medori followed with an RBI single to left field scoring Klosinski. Wyshinski would later score on a Trey Rogers double to right field to even the score at 2-2.

Young Harris would take the lead in the sixth inning as Klosinski hit a three-run home run to give the Mountain Lions a 5-2 lead. The Mountain Lions would score an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning for the 6-2 final.

The Moccasins struck first in the second game as well. T.J. Kuban hit a two-out single up the middle. Kyle Gibbs followed with an RBI triple down the right field line. Gibbs would score on a throwing error by Brady McCarter to give the Mocs a 2-0 lead.

That was enough for Fuglesang who pitched a complete game scattering three hits, and allowing only one unearned run. He retired the last 10 batters he faced and allowed one runner to get past second base.

The Moccasins will return to action Wednesday night when they travel to Saint Leo to take on the Lions in a non-conference game. Game time is 6 p.m.
