Saint Leo Strikes Early To Down Mocs

Saint Leo scored 11 runs in the first four innings and went on to down the 15th-ranked Moccasins 15-5 Wednesday night in a non-conference game at Saint Leo.

The Lions improved to 4-0, while the Moccasins slipped to 2-2. 
The Moccasins scored in their first at-bat when Kyle Jackson doubled home Mike Snyder, who had been hit by a pitch, but the Lions scored in the bottom of the inning and added two in the second, one in the third and seven in the fourth to break the game open. 
Mike Snyder belted his first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the eighth to highlight a four-run inning for the Moccasins  Austin Chubb doubled in Jackson with the fourth run of the inning.
 
Jackson had three hits, including a pair of doubles.  Snyder and Chubb had two hits each.  Red-shirt freshman Jimmy Perron, who entered the game in the sixth inning, picked up his first collegiate hit with a single in the ninth.  J.J. Downum, who came in in the seventh inning, singled in his first at-bat of the season in the eighth. 
 
Anthony Santa and Daniel Torres each had three hits for Saint Leo.
 
Austin Jackson was the Moccasins' starting pitcher.  He worked three innings and took the loss.  Anthony Dovale, Mike Czenszak, Nick Krolczyk, Branden Weber, Austin Barnett and Nate Carter all pitched in relief.  Barnett, a freshman from Lakeland, made his collegiate debut in the seventh inning and retired all three batters he faced.  Rick Teasley pitched the first six innings to get the win for Saint Leo.
 
The Moccasins open a three-game weekend series at Henley Field Friday at 7 p.m. against Lincoln Memorial.
