LAKELAND â€" Winning three fairly tight doubles matches, Florida Southern jumped out to a 3-0 before winning all six singles matches in straight sets to defeat Wayne State (MI) 9-0, Tuesday afternoon.
After Carl Lundberg and Benoit Paradis finished off an 8-5 win at number two doubles to give the Moccasins (5-8) their 3-0 lead, Charles Garneau and Lundberg put the match away for Florida Southern with identical 6-0, 6-2 wins in singles play. The tightest match came at the top singles flight where Paradis gave Florida Southern its third shutout win of the season with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Thomas Ducret.
Wayne State fell to 7-6 with the loss, and 2-3 on its trip to Florida.
Florida Southern will play its next match on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. against the #5-ranked NAIA team in the country, Auburn-Montgomery.
