Mocs And Tritons Split Saturday DH

Box Score 1

The Moccasins had another strong offensive showing in winning the first game of Saturday's Sunshine State Conference doubleheader at Eckerd, 10-3, but they were blanked in the second game, 2-0.

As they did in Friday's 8-1 win, everyone in the batting order had at least one hit in Saturday's first game, led by four from Cory Jensen.  Mike Snyder had two hits and drove in three runs and Keith Curcio had a pair of RBI.

Leading 4-0 after six innings, the Moccasins broke the game open with three runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth.

Clay Chapman worked 7.1 innings to collect his second win of the season.  He struck out seven and walked three.  Austin Barnett retired the final two batters in the eighth and Jack Sterritt worked a scoreless ninth.

In the second game, the Moccasins ran up against Eckerd ace Joey Cuda, last year's SSC Pitcher of the Year.  Cuda pitched six innings, striking out 10, walking one and scattering three hits.  Joe McLemore pitched the seventh to earn his first save.  The Moccasins did not get a runner past second base.  Snyder, Jimmy Correnti and J.J. Downum had the three Moccasin hits.

Eckerd scored the only run it needed in the first when Moccasin starter Jon Jones (1-4) walked the bases loaded, then walked McLemore to force in a run.  Nick Krolczyk pitched four innings in relief, giving up one run and three hits.  Mike Czenszak recorded the final five outs in order.

With Saturday's split, the Moccasins are 14-10, 5-4 in the SSC.  Eckerd is 12-10, 1-5 in the SSC.

The Moccasins play at Barry next Friday and Saturday.
