Moccasins Fly Past Falcons for 9-0 Win

LAKELAND â€" Carl Lundberg and Benoit Paradis won a relatively easy decision at number two doubles to get Florida Southern started, both players also swept through their singles matches in quick fashion, and Nathan Leavitt won his singles match without dropping a game as #23 Florida Southern defeated Bentley (MA) 9-0.

Lundberg and Paradis opened the match with an 8-1 victory before the Moccasins (7-8) won the next two doubles points to take a 3-0 lead. In singles play, they were never seriously challenged with all six of those matches decided in straight sets, and only three of the 12 sets going beyond 6-1.

Lundberg and Jorge Gutierrez won at the number four and five slots by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores, Paradis won at the top singles flight, 6-2, 6-1, and Leavitt was victorious at number three, 6-0, 6-0. Leavitt  joins Robbie Palmiotto and Charles Garneau as the only Moccasins to win by that score this year.

Garneau and Emanuel Lueber were also winners in singles play for the Moccasins on Saturday, who have won three straight and seven of their last nine.

Bentley fell to 7-4 with the loss, and went 1-3 against Sunshine State Conference schools on its trip to Florida.

Florida Southern’s next match will be Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. when it hosts #22 Ouachita Baptist (AR).
