In a match-up of top 25 men's tennis teams, #18 Saint Leo downed the #23 Moccasins, 7-2, Thursday in their Sunshine State Conference match at Saint Leo to halt the Moccasins' four-match winning streak.
The Lions (13-5, 2-3 SSC) took two of the three doubles matches, then reeled off four straight singles wins in straight sets to clinch the match.
The Moccasins (11-10, 1-4 SSC) got an 8-4 win from Benoit Paradis and Emanuel Lueber at No. 2 doubles, but were able to win only one singles match by Jorge Gutierrez in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 10-6, over Jose Morales at No. 6. The win was Gutierrez' 12th of the season, tying him with Paradis and Carl Lundberg for the team lead in singles wins.
The Moccasins play their final regular season match Monday at 3 p.m. against Florida Tech at the FSC Courts.ÂÂ
