The Moccasins posted wins by Magda Riutort and Sabine Goge over two ranked Saint Leo players at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but it wasn't enough, as the #15 Lions topped the #19 Moccasins, 6-3, in their Sunshine State Conference match at Saint Leo Thursday.
Riutort, who is ranked 39th, downed #13 Laura Kemkes, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Goge beat #25 Emily Singleton, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.
Saint Leo swept all three doubles matches, with the team of Kemkes and Singleton, ranked #8, getting past the team of Riutort and Goge, ranked #14, at No. 1 doubles.
The Lions (14-4, 3-3 SSC) clinched the match with wins at No. 4 and No. 3 singles and snapped the Moccasins' five-match winning streak, dropping the Moccasins' record to 8-8, 2-4 SSC).
The Moccasins play Northwood (Mich.) Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the FSC courts.
