After playing 14th-ranked Lynn even for eight innings, the Moccasins committed two costly errors in the top of the ninth inning that opened the gates for Lynn to score nine runs, five of them unearned, and win the first game of their Sunshine State Conference series, 11-2, Friday night at Henley Field.
The Moccasins could have gotten out of the inning with just two runs scoring, but a throwing error on a bunt single allowed two runs to score, then after two were out, a dropped pop fly allowed Lynn to keep the inning going and score five more runs.
With the win Lynn improved to 21-8, 5-2 in the SSC, while the Moccasins fell to 16-13, 6-7 in the SSC.
The Fighting Knights had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, but the Moccasins got a run back when Mike Snyder walked with the bases loaded. They tied it the next inning when Kyle Jackson scored all the way from first on a two-base error on Colin Kish's single to right.
Joe Perrotta picked up the win in relief of starter Shawn Kale to even his record at 2-2. Mike Czenszak took the loss for the Moccasins, dropping his record to 1-1.
The Moccasins and Fighting Knights play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. at Henley Field.
