Pfeiffer downs the Mocs 13-10

Twelfth-ranked Florida Southern was unable to halt a late Pfeiffer rally, as the Moccasins fell to the Eagles, 13-10, Saturday afternoon in Misenheimer, N.C. With the win Pfeiffer improves to 7-5, while the Moccasins fall to 7-3.

The Moccasins struck first, as Alexa Caffrey connected with Maureen Cromer for a goal to give the Mocs a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Cromer found Caffrey for a goal. Pfeiffer scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead with 18:42 remaining in the first half. The Moccasins responded by scoring four unanswered goals, including three from Lorianne Hoover to take a 6-4 advantage at the half.

The Eagles came out strong in the second half, scoring back-to-back goals to even the score 6-6, three minutes into the half. The Mocs regained the lead, as Mara Masson connected with Caffrey for her second goal of the game. Katie Ferree netted an unassisted goal to extend the Mocs lead to 8-6 with 24:53 remaining. Pfeiffer scores two unanswered goals to even the score at 8-8. Hoover converted a free position shot to give the Mocs a 9-8 advantage with 19:08 remaining, but the Eagles scored five of the final six goals for the 13-10 win.

Hoover led the Moccasins with four goals, while Caffrey and Ferree each netted two.

Katie Gladhill lead the Moccasins with four draw controls and three caused turnovers, while Megan Asper picked up five ground balls two draw controls. Katie Hammerer made eight saves in the contest.

The Moccasins return to action tomorrow when they travel to Salisbury, N.C. to face Catawba. Game time is noon.
