Saint Leo Scores 4 Early & Wins 4-2

Box Score

Saint Leo scored four runs in the first three innings and made them stand up for a 4-2 win over the Moccasins in the opening game of their Sunshine State Conference series Friday night at Henley Field.

The Lions are 13-5, 1-0 in the SSC.  The Moccasins are 10-8, 2-2 in the SSC.

Saint Leo scored single runs in the first and second, then picked up two more in the third, all off Moccasin starter Jon Jones (1-3).

The Moccasins got a solo home run from Kyle Jackson, his first of the season, in the second and an RBI-single from Colin Kish in the seventh.  After Kish's hit, his second of the game, Kyle Gibbs reached on a fielder's choice to give the Moccasins runners at first and second with one out, but J.J. Downum flied out to center and Cory Jensen flied out to left to end the inning.

The Lions' Aaron Brandt worked 6.2 innings to get his fourth win in five decisions.  Shaun Gough recorded the final out of the seventh and the first two in the eighth, then Adam Albers retired the final four batters in order for his second save.

Nick Krolczyk threw 5.1 scoreless innings in relief for the Moccasins after taking over in the fourth inning.

The Moccasins and Lions play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. at Henley Field Saturday.
