Keith Curcio scored the go-ahead run on a mishandled ground ball to third with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to give the Moccasins an 8-7 win over Rollins Friday night in the first game of their three-game Sunshine State Conference series at Winter Park.
Curcio had singled to start the inning and was at second base with two outs. Colin Kish hit a high bouncer to third for an infield single, then Curcio scored when the ball got past the third baseman.
Nate Carter set the Tars down in order in the bottom of the ninth to record his ninth save, as the Moccasins improved to 24-18, 12-10 in the SSC. Rollins fell to 27-18, 8-11 SSC.
Matt Fuglesang, who had been sidelined since Mar. 30 with an injury, came out of the bullpen and pitched three innings in relief of starter Clay Chapman to get the win and boost his record to 5-2.
Jimmy Correnti had given the Moccasins a 7-6 lead in the top of the eighth with a one-out, two-run single that scored Kish and Michael Anthony, but the Tars tied it in the bottom of the inning on a one-out home run by Kevin Mager.
Austin Chubb had a solo homer for the Moccasins, his eighth of the season. Kish, who is batting .368 in his last five games, had three hits. Correnti and J.J. Downum each had two.
The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. at Winter Park.ÂÂ
