LAKELAND â€" After defeating two opponents by a combined 21 goals and earning the program’s highest ever ranking in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association Poll this past week, the Florida Southern Women’s Lacrosse squad drops one spot to 12th in this week’s IWLCA Poll.
The Moccasins, who are 8-1 on the season, have been ranked or have received votes in every poll this season. FSC defeated two opponents this past week, Colorado Mesa, 22-9 and Shippensburg 18-10, to extend their win streak to seven straight games.
The reigning Division-II National Champion, LIU-Post (7-0), still holds onto the top position in the as the Pioneers received 222 total votes including receiving 12 of the 15 first place votes. LIU-Post had been receiving all by one of the first places votes but this week the Pioneers lost two of them to second-ranked West Chester (3-0). West Chester, who picked up the other three first place votes, closed the Pioneers’ gap to only 16 points. Limestone (9-1) remains in third place while Rollins (7-1) and Adelphi (7-0) switch orders in the poll as Rollins takes over the fourth spot while Adelphi falls to fifth.
Undefeated Pfeiffer (11-0), who has beaten three Top 15 opponents including giving the Mocs their only loss this season, stays ranked sixth. Dowling (5-1) and Bentley (3-1) trade the seventh and eighth spots respectively, while LeMoyne and Stonehill remain ranked at ninth and tenth for this week’s poll
Lock Haven (3-1) who was tied for 11th with the Mocs last week takes sole possession of 11th after winning two games and losing in a close battle to third-ranked Limestone. Florida Southern (8-1) drops one spot to 12th while Bloomsburg (2-3), even with their losing record, jumps two spots to 13th. New Haven (2-4) continues sliding this week falling from 12th to 13th. Mercyhurst (5-1) falls back to 15th.
The Mocs have three more games at home before taking to the road to finish the season. FSC will get back to action, tonight, March 26 at 7:00 p.m. out at Bryant Stadium against winless Merrimack. The Warriors opened the season receiving votes in the IWLCA poll, in both week one and the preseason.
