Mocs Jump to #10 In IWLCA Poll

Box Score

GRAND LAKE, CO. - Florida Southern improved their ranking in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) poll of the 2014 season.

The Mocs jumped up one spot to No. 10 in the country, despite not having played a game yet. Although they earned two less points in the newest poll than they did in the preseason poll, shuffling amongst the teams helped bump FSC up one spot.

While there has been some movement within the Top 15 since the preseason poll was released on Feb. 3, Bentley was the only team to drop out of the poll. The Northeast-10 Conference placed the most teams in the poll with four ranked and three receiving votes for a total of seven teams, while the PSAC was next with three teams ranked in the poll and two receiving votes.

The top three teams in the poll remained firmly in place, with two-time reigning Division II National Champion LIU-post holding onto the top spot with 222 total points and 195 first-place votes, while Adelphi comes in at No. 2 with 211 points and the remaining 30 first-place votes and Limestone narrowly edged Le Moyne for the third spot with 189 points for the Saints and 183 for the Dolphins.

Lock Haven jumped up to No. 5 with 164 points, while West Chester (149), Stonehill (112), Rollins (106), Dowling (104) and the Mocs (70) round out the Top 10.

Pfeiffer kicked off the rest of the poll by coming in at No. 11 with 62 points, and the Falcons were followed by New Haven (52), Queens (47), Indiana (Pa.) (42) and Lindenwood (37) finish the Top 15. Bentley, Merrimack, Mercyhurst, St. Anselm, Bloomsburg, Philadelphia and Gannon also received votes in the newest poll.

Rollins had the most significant drop of any team in the poll, falling four spots after losing 15-10 to then-unranked Queens. Meanwhile, the Royals were the only new team to enter the poll with wins over Rollins and Tampa and a two-goal loss to Limestone.

The Mocs kick off their season against St. Bonaventure at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista on Monday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. FSC opens the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday, Mar. 4, at 11 a.m. against Gannon at Bryant Stadium.
