Florida Southern Jumps From Seventh to Fifth in the Latest IWLCA Division II Poll

GRAND LAKE, Colo. - The Moccasins continue to ascend the ranks of Division II, leaping from seventh to fifth in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll released Monday afternoon.

The Moccasins, 7-1 on the season with ranked wins over Stonehill and Indiana (Pa.) and a close loss to Limestone, received 160 votes in the newest poll to land them 12 votes behind No. 4 Le Moyne and 22 votes ahead of No. 6 Lock Haven.

Aside from the amount of votes received, the top three teams in the country remain completely unchanged as the regular season draws towards its conclusion. LIU-Post (8-0) retains the No. 1 spot with 224 total votes and 210 first-place votes, while No. 2 Adelphi (7-0) received 211 votes and the remaining 15 first-place votes, and No. 3 Limestone received 193 total votes.

The Dolphins (6-1) are the new No. 4 team in the country with 172 total votes after claiming three wins over the past week. Following the Northeast-10 Conference power are the Moccasins, coming off a spectacular 16-15 victory over Indiana (Pa.), ranked 15th in last week's poll. FSC received 160 votes in this week's poll, the highest amount they've received in the program's history.

Following the Mocs is Lock Haven, who fell from fourth to sixth with back-to-back losses, who received 138 votes in the newest poll. The Lady Eagles just squeaked by New Haven (6-0) for the No. 6 spot, with the Chargers receiving 137 votes to rank seventh. Indiana (Pa.) (4-2), Rollins (5-2) and West Chester (3-1) round out the Top 10 by receiving 96, 88 and 83 votes, respectively.

The Pfeiffer Falcons (7-2) improved one spot to rank 11th with 76 votes in this week's poll. The Falcons are followed by Lindenwood (7-2) at No. 12 with 63 votes, Queens (N.C.) (7-3) in 13th with 57 votes, Stonehill (2-3) in 14th 49 votes, and Bloomsburg (3-2) at No. 15 with 20 votes. The Huskies are the only new team to the poll, after knocking off West Chester on Saturday, Mar. 22. Dowling, St. Anselm and Regis (CO) received votes in this week's poll.

The Mocs' rankings also increased in the latest Lacrosse Magazine media poll, also released Monday afternoon. Much like in the IWLCA poll, the Lacrosse Magazine staff ranked the Moccasins at No. 5 after their close win on Tuesday.

Florida Southern returns to the field later today at 7 p.m. when they host Fort Lewis (5-2).
