Lynn Wins Make-Up Match Over Moccasins, 8-1

BOCA RATON â€" In a make-up match from earlier this season, 8th-ranked Lynn University got wins from two nationally ranked players at the top of the singles lineup after sweeping doubles play and went on to an 8-1 win over #32 Florida Southern on Friday night.

Playing a rare night match, the Moccasins (8-8, 1-4 Sunshine State Conference) and Knights (12-4, 5-0) had previously tried to play on February 27, but rain halted that one with only the three doubles matches completed. The Knights held a 2-1 lead in that one, but Friday night’s match was re-started from the beginning by rule. The two sides nearly made it through doubles with the same score after Lynn took the first two, with the third one in a tiebreaker. The Knights’ No. 3 team of Pavel Mojha and Giulio Gomba ended up winning though, defeating junior Charles Garneau (L’ancienne-Lorette, QB) and junior Carl Lundberg (Stocksund, Sweden), 9-8 (7-4).

With singles play underway, the Mocs got a first-set win from senior Benoit Paradis (Quebec City, QB) at No. 1 before Tomas Porkop came back for a 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 win. Four other Lynn players won in straight sets, but the Mocs got a point from senior Nathan Leavitt (Bradenton, Fla.) at No. 4. Leavitt defeated Paolo Volpicelli 0-6, 6-4, 10-7.

Florida Southern will play its next match on Wednesday, April 2, when it travels to Babson Park to face Webber International at 3 p.m.
