Start Time of Mocs Doubleheader Friday at Rollins Pushed Up One Hour

WINTER PARK - Due to a forecast that calls for heavy rain and thunderstorms here later in the day on Friday, Rollins has pushed up the start time of its Sunshine State Conference doubleheader with Florida Southern on Friday afternoon one hour from 1 p.m. to 12 p.m. at Alfond Stadium.

The teams will begin the doubleheader with a nine inning game and the conclude the doubleheader with a seven inning game to follow 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

Friday's doubleheader will conclude the three-game series between the two SSC rivals as the 19th-ranked Moccasins posted a 5-1 win in Thursday's series opener behind a solid starting pitching performance from senior Clay Chapman (Orlando, Fla.) and an offense that recorded nine hits, including two hits apiece from senior first baseman Trey Vavra (Menomonie, Wis.) and senior leftfielder J.J. Downum (Land O'Lakes, Fla.). The win was the ninth in the last 10 games against the Tars dating to the 2011 season.

With Thursday's win, the Mocs improved to 27-13 overall on the season and 10-6 in the SSC, while Rollins dropped its 10th straight game and fell to 13-24 overall and 1-18 in the SSC on the year.

Following Friday's doubleheader, the Mocs will play four games next week beginning on Wednesday, April 23 as they travel to Lake Wales for a rescheduled game with Warner at 3:30 p.m., before closing out the home portion of its 2014 schedule with a three-game SSC series against Saint Leo on April 25-26.
