LAKELAND – Brian Slivonik picked up his fourth singles win of the year in straight sets, and Arthur Viallaneix also won in singles play as #32 Florida Southern fell to Ferris State (MI), 7-2 Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (7-4) scored the first two points of the match at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, but needed a 9-7 decision from their top doubles team of Aaron Dial and Laurent Galarneau to take a 3-0 lead. In singles play, however, the Moccasins (2-8) and Bulldogs split the first four matches that were played, with Slivonik defeating Dial 6-0, 6-4 at No. 6, and Viallaneix taking down Tyler Bridges at No. 3, 7-5, 6-1.
Ferris State was able to secure the match though with a 3-set win by Galarneau (ranked #36 in the country) over Fabian Lundberg at the top flight, 6-1, 6-7 (4), 10-8. The remaining two singles matches were left unfinished.
Florida Southern will play again on Friday with two matches scheduled in Orlando against St. Thomas Aquinas and Ohio Dominican.
