LAKELAND – Miroslava Mensikova and Nina Vucevic helped get #45 Florida Southern's match with Ferris State off to a good start with a win at No. 2 doubles, and Katie Taylor-Doran and Magda Riutort won in singles, but Ferris State pulled away for a 6-3 win over the Moccasins Thursday afternoon.

Mensikova and Vucevic gave the Moccasins (2-5) an 9-7 win, though the Bulldogs (17-8) won the other doubles positions, to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

In singles play, Ferris State picked up a couple of early wins while surrendering just one game in each of them, but the Moccasins got their own straight set wins from Katie Taylor-Doran at No. 3, and Magda Riutort at No. 1. The Bulldogs, however, garnered the remaining singles points for their 6-3 margin, one of them a 3-set win by Brelsford at No. 2, where she and Olivia Spagnuolo split a pair of 7-6 sets at the end.

Florida Southern will be at home again on Saturday when it plays host to #27 Wayne State (MI) at 9 a.m.
