DAVIE - Florida Southern continued to battle tough competition on the road Saturday with a morning match against fourth-ranked Nova Southern, but in the end, the Sharks prevailed by a 9-0 score.
The Sharks (17-1, 7-1) opened the match by sweeping the doubles matches, taking number one doubles, 8-2, as Petra Jurova and Irina Constantinide downed Miroslava Mensikova and Nina Vucevic. At number two, NSU's Alexandra Johansson and Alex Kaeser beat Katie Taylor-Doran and Katie Stanford, 8-1, while at number three, the Sharks duo of Linda Kornienko and Iryna Serdyuk bested Cassie Eldredge and Shannon Griffin, 8-3.
In singles, 25th ranked Jurova topped Mensikova, 6-3, 6-1, at number one while at number two, Constantinide was victorious over Vucevic, 6-1, 6-3. At number three, Johansson downed Taylor-Doran, 6-3, 6-3, while Stanford fell 6-0, 6-1 to Carlee Rizzolo at number four. Eldredge and Griffin suffered identical 6-1, 6-2 losses at the hands of Bianca Roberts and Charlotte Cote at humber five and six singles respectively.
The Mocs (6-14, 2-5) wrap up the regular season with a match April 17 at Florida Tech.
