Mocs Double Up Tampa With 6-3 Home Win

LAKELAND - Florida Southern swept doubles and then split singles to post a 6-3 victory over the University of Tampa Tuesday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.

Nina Vucevic and Miroslava Mensikova got the ball rolling for the Mocs (6-12, 2-3) with the first win of the match, defeating Tampa's number two team of Gianna Pinasco and Emily Hewland by a 8-2 tally. The Mocs' top team of Magda Riutort and Olivia Spagnuolo held off Kristen Mee and Kelsey Matthews by a narrow 9-8 margin, while Katie Taylor-Doran and Katie Stanford completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Cameron Moskol and Jenelle Morgan.

Taylor-Doran got the singles battles off on the right foot with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Hewland at number four. Riutort then sealed the Mocs' win with a 6-1, 6-4 win versus Mee at number one to give the Mocs a decisive 5-0 lead.

Matthews picked up Tampa's first win with a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Vucevic at number two while Mensikova beat Pinasco, 6-4, 6-3 at number three. The Spartans took the final two singles matches.

Florida Southern closes out its regular season with a three-game road swing beginning Friday at Lynn.
