Southern Sunk, 8-1, by Sixth-Ranked West Florida

TAMPA – Florida Southern saw its three-match win streak come to a close on Friday as visiting sixth-ranked West Florida posted an 8-1 win over the Moccasins here at the Warden Tennis Center.

Included in the win streak for Florida Southern were wins on the road versus No. 43 Texas A&M-Kingsville and at home against #32 Wayne State (Mich.), but it was a different story against the No. 6 Argonauts.

Florida Southern (6-4) picked up its only point of the match at number three singles as Lorena Rionda posted a hard-fought 6-2, 6-7, 10-8 win over Dianna Vlad.

West Florida (10-2) swept doubles play winning at number one as Hannah Toro and Kat Dikosavljevic, ranked eighth in the South Region, posted an 8-3 victory over the Mocs' Sasha Nionova and Linnea Skymberg. Paula Lopez and Nina Bubelova won 8-2 over FSC's Rionda and Selin Devrimci while Vlad and Valeria Mantilla downed Natalija Popovic and Cassie Eldredge, 8-3, at number three.

In singles, 32nd ranked Dikosavljevic topped Skymberg, 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 at number one while Lopez, ranked 12th regionally, downed Devrimci, 6-3, 6-4 at number two. Bubelova, ranked 42nd nationally, won  6-4, 6-4, over Popovic at number four while Heath Mixon won out, 6-1, 6-1, over FSC's Carolyn Cureton at number five. Finally, Mantilla posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over the Mocs' Katie Stanford at number six.

Florida Southern travels to the University of Tampa on Tuesday, March 22 for a 3 p.m. match versus the Spartans.
