Women's Tennis Rallies For 5-4 Win Over Rollins

LAKELAND - Florida Southern rallied from a 3-0 deficit after doubles as the 25th-ranked Moccasins took a 5-4 win from #27 Rollins in Sunshine State Conference women's tennis action that took nearly five and a half hours to play here Wednesday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. With the win, the Moccasins improve to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in the SSC while Rollins drops to 7-9 overall and 2-4 in league play.

Savanna Fuller and Teresa Kaiser set the Rollins doubles sweep in order by defeating Lorena Rionda and Magda Stepnik by an 8-3 at number three. The Tars recorded identical 8-6 wins in the final two doubles match-ups with Fabiana Vitanza and Alexandra Borg downing Sasha Nionova Selin Devrimci at number one and Shannon Etten and Carlye Goldman won out over Linnea Skymberg Natalija Popovic.

The Moccasins then rallied to take five of the six singles matches for the win. Nionova, ranked 32nd in the NCAA Division II defeated Fabiana Vitanza, 6-3, 6-0, at number one to start the Florida Southern comeback. With the win, Nionova remains undefeated at 7-0. Skymberg then won 6-2, 6-1 over Etten at number two. 

Asis then edged Kaiser, 6-2, 7-5, at number six to improve to 10-4 on the year, with Rionda prevailing, 6-7, 6-4, 6-1, over Carlye Goldman at number three to move to 8-4 on the season. 

Borg then tied the match at 4-all for Rollins with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Devrimci at number four. The match came down to the final pairing at number five with Popovic edging Fuller, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7) for the Moccasin win. Popovic now stands at 10-3 on the year. 

Florida Southern travels to Boca Raton on Saturday to play at Lynn at 10 a.m.
