WEST PALM BEACH – Florida Southern won for the fourth time in its last five matches, topping Palm Beach Atlantic, 7-2. in Sunshine State Conference action here Friday at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center. The 15th-ranked Moccasins improve to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference while the Sailfish slip to 10-10 and 1-5.
Magda Stepnik and Nina Schwab kicked off the match with an 8-2 win over Laura Andersen and Johanna Kern at number two doubles while #12 Sasha Nionova and Selin Devrimci, ranked 12th in the latest ITA NCAA Division II rankings, downed the No. 16 duo of Yuliia Russu and Taylor Conti, 8-3, at number one. Lorena Rionda and Natalija Popovic completed the Moccasins' double sweep with an 8-4 victory at number three over Romina Bolagay and Michaela Mignemi.
In singles, Schwab topped Kern, 6-2, 6-2, at number six and Rionda, ranked 68th nationally, defeated Andersen, 6-0, 6-2, at number one to seal the match for Florida Southern.
FSC's Devrimci fell, 6-1, 6-3 to PBA's Bella Mermersky at number two, but Stepnik downed Bolagay, 6-3, 6-1 at number five. Moccasin Lola Asis was defeated, 1-6, 7-5, 10-8, by Conti at number four while Popovic edged Russu, 5-7, 7-6 (7-1), 10-2, at number three.
Florida Southern continues its southern Florida road trip with a 1 pm match Saturday at 4th-ranked Barry in Miami Shores.
