LAKELAND, FL - Florida Southern College women's tennis cruised in its SSC-opener and home-opener against Tampa on Wednesday, winning 6-1. The No. 9 Moccasins (4-0, 1-0) earned the doubles point and won five of the six singles flights in straight sets to give the Spartans (1-2, 0-1) their first conference loss of 2019.
Junior Avery Hunter made her debut for the Mocs for 2019 in the No. 6 singles flight, defeating Nicoline Palmgren 6-4, 6-3. The No. 3 doubles pairing of Gabby Hesse and Natalija Popovic improved to a perfect 3-0 for the season, the only remaining doubles pairing for the Moccasins to remain undefeated. Magda Stepnik also improved to 3-0 on the season but for singles play, substituting in for the No. 2 singles flight.
