Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern College volleyball fell 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to Florida Tech at Streamline Sale Arena at Jenkins Field House. The Moccasins (2-9, 0-4 SSC) battled but could not outhit a powerful Panther squad (2-10, 1-3 SSC). The Mocs will now hit the road for two conference matches at Tampa on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and at Rollins on Saturday at 4 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Panthers set the pace early with a 7-3 start before the Moccasins retaliated with a 4-0 run to tie the match at seven. From there Florida Tech exploded offensively, using seven-straight kills to take a 14-7 lead. FSC regrouped but could not overcome the earlier Panther surge as the away side took the first set, 25-15.
- The Moccasins erased a 3-0 start by the Panthers in the second set with a 5-1 run, capitalizing on four errors by the visiting team. A back-and-forth affair ensued until the 9-9 mark when the Panthers began to slowly pull away with a 3-0 run. This trend continued for the remainder of the set as the Panthers took the second set, 25-18. The second set saw five tie scores and two lead changes.
- Set three saw a string of point swings as the lead bounced back and forth between the squads. A 3-0 start for the Mocs swung to a 6-4 lead for the Panther and again back to the Mocs at 12-10 before the sides were tied at 13 a-piece. Florida Tech repeated their second set performance by again pulling slightly ahead with a 3-0 run and closed the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-0.
- Rachael Martin led the team with a .375 hitting percentage and 11 kills, while Tierra Porter tallied eight kills. Mika Garza recorded 30 assists while Ali Travis and Hailey Williams recorded double-digit digs with 15 and 11, respectively.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Despite the loss, Florida Southern still leads the all-time series at 67-9. The Moccasins now lead the series at home with a 37-2 record.
- Setter Garza set the new season-high for assists in a three-set match with 30. The freshman leads the team with 230 so far in 2019.
- Martin tied the season-high for kills in a three-set match with her 11 kills. The junior has now recorded double-digit kills in three matches this season.

- The Moccasins will travel to take on reigning National Champion Tampa on Tuesday night before heading to Winter Park, Fla. for an afternoon match against Rollins on Saturday.
