Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. – Sophomore attacker Sean Nolan recorded the first four goals as the Florida Southern College men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-5 decision to Tampa. The Mocs (1-2) took on its rival Tampa (3-0) in a non-conference matchup at Moccasin Field at the Barnett Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • 1st Quarter | Tampa opened the game with a goal in the first minute as they scored on their opening possession. The visitors would make it 2-0 roughly 90 seconds later. Sophomore Jeff Atlas recorded the Mocs first shot of the game as he sent one wide past the goal with 11:40 on the opening clock. Tampa would make it a 3-0 advantage as Jack Wood found the back of the net at the 7:14 mark. Over the next six minutes, the Mocs would hold a 3-1 shot advantage over the Spartans before Tampa's Cole Witman made it 4-0 Spartans with 45 seconds remaining on the clock. Sophomore Sean Nolan found the back of the next with 8.9 seconds on the clock to cut the Spartans lead to three. Tampa would lead 4-1 after the first 15 minutes.
  • 2nd Quarter | The Spartans quickly added another goal as Christian Borodiak took the opening faceoff and scored just seventeen seconds into the second period. Tampa added a man-up goal at the 9:34 mark of the second quarter to put their lead to five, 6-1. Once again, Nolan found the back of the net as the Mocs got the ball back after a shot by junior Justin Dunleavy sent a shot wide of the net. That would be all the Mocs would manage for the second quarter as Tampa would close the half with a 4-0 run to take a 10-2 lead into the half.
  • 3rd Quarter | The visitors opened the third quarter with a pair of goals to push the lead to ten just three minutes into the quarter. Nolan took a feed from sophomore Andrew Medeiros and recorded the hat trick for the Mocs to make it 12-3 Tampa. That would be the final goal of the third quarter as sophomore goalie Maxwell Freestone made four saves over the final 10 minutes of the third quarter. The Spartans would take a 12-3 lead into the final quarter.
  • 4th Quarter | Southern opened the scoring as Nolan recorded his fourth goal on the day off a feed from senior Kevin Dyer. The Mocs would get their first back-to-back goals as freshman Thomas Frank recorded his first collegiate goal at the 9:11 mark of the fourth quarter. Dyer looked to add another goal for the Moccasins just 30 seconds later as he sent a shot right at the Tampa goalie. The Spartans would record their final goal of the game at the 3:33 mark to make it 13-5. Tampa would win 13-5.
