Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 8 Florida Southern College Moccasins women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-9 decision on Sunday night to visiting No. 9 Lindenwood (Mo.).
Senior attack Julia Couch scored four goals for FSC (2-2) to lead the attack.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half
- Florida Southern wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard, as Riley Bannatyne won the opening draw and moved the ball forward to junior midfielder Maliah Benedetto. Benedetto crossed into the attack zone, and fed senior Marina Jozokos, who scored just 11 seconds into the game.
- After Lindenwood tied the game, Couch scored her first goal of the game, propelling Southern ahead again, 2-1.
- The teams traded goals, with sophomore middie Brenna Smith scoring FSC's third goal.
- The Lions would score two straight to take the lead, until Bannatyne scored with 4:21 remaining to tie the score at 4-4.
- Lindenwood would tally again less than a minute later, setting up senior Grace Glinecki, who tied the game at 5-5 heading into the half.
2nd Half
- Lindenwood started the half strong, scoring six consecutive goals over the first ten minutes to take a commanding lead.
- The Mocs would trim the lead to four goals at 12-8, on a pair of goals from Couch.
- After Lindenwood's final goal, Couch would score her fourth of the game with just 1:11 remaining.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- For the second time in as many games, sophomore Patricia Werker made 11 saves in goal.
- For the game, Lindenwood had the edge in draw controls, 14-9.
- The Lions out-shot Florida Southern, 38-19.
- Senior defender Becca Hill had three caused turnovers, two draw controls, and two groundballs.
- Senior defender Jill Boehmcke led the team with three groundballs.
- The Mocs are now 1-2 against ranked opponents this season.
