Box Score PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's basketball team (26-2, 18-2 SSC) rounded out the regular season with a 92-86 win over host Palm Beach Atlantic (20-8, 13-7 SSC). Brandon Carroll scored 21 points to lead all players.
The Mocs will enter the SSC Championships as the No. 1 seed, and will host No. 8 Lynn University on Tuesday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half
- PBA jumped out to an early 8-3 lead, as senior forward Jack Rauch managed a three-pointer.
- The Mocs would pull even at 14-14 on a pair of Xavier Rhodes free throws at 13:29. Eventually, Southern would go on a 6-0 run, which was punctuated by a Rauch layup. The Mocs led, 24-20.
- Minutes later, Rhodes would make a steal, and feed Jalyn Hinton for a dunk, as Southern would lead 30-25 with 3:50 to play.
- Southern would eventually lead 40-33 at the half.
2nd Half
- Once again, PBA came out of the gates strong, and quickly tied the game at 40-40, then again at 42 apiece.
- From there, the Mocs went on a run, pushing the lead to 50-42, on another dunk by Hinton.
- But PBA would fight back, and take a 60-58 lead with 11:31 to play. Eventually, the Sailfish would lead by six at 67-61, with 9:30 to go.
- The Mocs would respond, and would reclaim the lead at 76-74, as Carroll banged home a three pointer.
- The Mocs would hold the lead for the rest of the game, winning 92-86.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Six Mocs scored in double figures, led by Carroll's 21 off the bench. Hinton scored 16, followed by Rhodes, Rauch, and E.J. Dambreville with 11 apiece, and senior Brett Hanson with 10.
- Carroll also led the team with eight rebounds.
- FSC, who leads the nation in blocked shots, added ten blocks tonight. Rauch led the team with four.
