HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Florida Southern College women's tennis won its third-straight match on Sunday afternoon as it cruised 5-2 over Tiffin in Hilton Head, S.C. The No. 18 Moccasins (4-4) gave the Dragons (13-2) their second loss of the season.
"We saw some strong tennis today," head coach Trish Riddell said. "There were some close losses but overall it was a great team win."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- FSC took the doubles point as Lola Asis and Mathilda Vidgren won 6-1 in the No. 3 flight and Magda Stepnik and Minnie Kim triumphed 6-2 in the No. 2 flight. Tiffin earned the No. 1 flight on a 6-2 decision in favor of Juliette Sirgant and Emily Sim.
- Asis started the singles flights on a high note with two 6-0 sets in the No. 5 flight. Laura Vetter followed quickly after with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the No. 1 flight.
- Tiffin made the match interesting with two-straight points from two three-set flights. Emily Sim defeated Kim 6-2 in the first set of the No. 2 flight (6-2) but Kim responded with a 6-3 decision. Kim fell heartbreakingly at 10-8 in the third set.
- Flor Salerno won the first set of the No. 3 flight, 6-4, before falling 6-4 in the second set and 10-6 in the tiebreaker.
- Gabby Hesse clinched match point with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 performance in the No. 6 flight. Stepnik closed out the match with a 6-2, 5-7, 10-7 nailbiter in the No. 4 flight.
- FSC won the match, 5-2. Southern is now 3-0 all-time against Tiffin.
