LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern College men's tennis won its seventh-straight match on Saturday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center as it swept Southern New Hampshire, 7-0. The No. 18 Moccasins (8-1) defeated numerous nationally-ranked Penmen (5-2) in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Pablo Salamanca and Valentin Hertweck won 6-2 in the No. 2 doubles flight while Brian Pham and Tim Becker clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win in the No. 3 flight. Erik Nordblom and Andres Cabezas helped the Mocs sweep doubles with a 6-4 win over the No. 6 doubles pairing in the East, Willem and Bas van Biezen.
- Cabezas cruised in a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No. 3 flight and Oscar Sohl finished shortly after with a 6-2, 6-1 decision in the No. 4 flight. The Mocs clinched the match after Miroslav Cvjetan earned two 6-1 sets in the No. 6 flight.
- Chase Martin triumphed 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 5 flight and Nordblom made it 6-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the No. 1 flight.
- The Moccasins earned the sweep after Hertweck, who had fallen 2-6 in the first set of the No. 2 flight, bounced back with a 6-3 second set and 10-7 third-set tiebreaker.
- The win is head coach Greg Van Emburgh's 25th with the Moccasins as the program is now 6-0 all-time against Southern New Hampshire.
UP NEXT:
Southern will continue its homestand with six matches in-a-row. The Mocs will host Post, Hillsdale, Bluefield State, Texas-Tyler, Northwood and Auburn Montgomery from Monday through Saturday. The first four matches will be at 3 p.m. while Friday's contest is at 4 p.m. and Saturday's at 11 a.m.
