BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Southern women's volleyball dropped Friday night's Sunshine State Conference (SSC) match in four sets to the host Fighting Knights from Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida.
The Mocs (6-3, 3-2 SSC) opened their three-match road stand on the short end of a 3-1 decision against Lynn (6-6, 3-2 SSC) despite a team-high nine kills from
Tierra Porter and
Ali Travis. The balanced offensive attack also featured six kills from
Mackenzie Petermann and five from
Emily Crescenzi.
How It Happened
- The Mocs dropped the first set, 25-9, but rebounded to even the match at 1-1.
- The second-set rally began as Travis tossed a trio of aces for five of the first six points in the second.
- Leading 8-7 in the set, the Mocs added a 7-1 run that featured four Lynn errors, two Travis kills, and another ace from setter Cassidy Markel.
- Crescenzi floored kills for the last two points to win the second set, 25-19.
- Despite hitting .286 in the second, the Mocs hit at a negative rate in the third (-0.081), which allowed the Fighting Knights to pull ahead in the match, two-sets-to-one.
- Lynn won five of the first seven points in the fourth and never looked back.

- Both Florida Southern and Lynn are 3-2 against SSC opponents so far in 2021.
- The Fighting Knights finished with advantages in most categories, including kills (53-to-35), aces (8-to-6), and blocks (7-to-6).
