WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Florida Southern College volleyball team earned its third consecutive five-set Sunshine State Conference win on Friday, as the Moccasins defeated Rollins College on the road at the Warden Arena in Winter Park, Fla.
The Mocs improved to 9-5 overall and 6-4 against SSC opponents with Tuesday's 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 27-29, 25-16, 15-4) win over the Tars (3-14, 0-10 SSC).
How It Happened
-
Florida Southern took command early on, scoring five of the first six points. After trading the next four points each, the Mocs were able to take advantage and extend their lead 17-7 to push FSC with a 1-0 advantage after a Madison Fowler kill finishing set one 25-19.
-
The second set was a little different for the Mocs as they went on an early 5-3 run and continued to increase their lead until the Tars tied it up at 15-15 after a Southern serving error.
-
The second set continued to go back forth until Rollings went on two different 3-point runs to finish the set with just a two-point advantage taking set two forcing at least a fourth set.
-
The win by two was still in effect tonight as set three took the game into high numbers finishing with a 29-27 fight unfortunately for the Mocs set three went to the Tars.
-
In set three Rollins and FSC tied each other a total of eleven times in the set, with the largest lead being 12-7 in favor of the Mocs. Rollings eventually took the advantage as their 16 kills in the third set couldn't overpower the Tars 18 kills to take a 29-27 third set win.
-
In the fourth and potentially final set, Southern knew they had to give it all they had to force a fifth set and that is exactly what they did.
-
FSC dominated the fourth set after the Mocs broke away from a 7-7 tie to go on a six-point run.
-
The difference for Rollins and Southern was the play at the net as FSC tallied 10 kills with just two errors as the Tars totaled eight errors and seven kills.
-
The fifth and deciding set belonged to the Mocs recording 10 kills and zero attack errors cruising to a 15-4 win.
