MOBILE, Ala. -- The Florida Southern men's soccer team saw their winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon as they fell to non-conference opponent Spring Hill 2-0. The Mocs traveled to Mobile, Alabama to face the Badgers after only facing Sunshine State Conference opponents since early September. FSC knew it was going to be tough challenge after a long road trip up to Alabama but they needed to face outside competition from the conference before going into the final two games of regular-season next week. With the loss, Southern falls to 4-7-3 on the year and 3-4-1 in conference play, while Spring Hills moves to 9-5-0 overall and 4-4-0 in the Gulf South Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half was a back and forth battle as no team created a big scoring opportunity.
- Spring Hill did have a few opportunities in the first half, but they were called offsides not allowing the Badgers to take a shot.
- It was not until the second half that either team was presented with an advantage.
- In the 68th minute, James Meehan brought down the Badgers attacker in the box, leading to a penalty kick that put the first goal on the board for Spring Hill.
- The second goal came just a minute later as the Badgers scored to the left of keeper, Mars Gohier.
- Southern took several corners during the 77th minute but the Mocs just could not find the back of the net to close the gap in the final minutes
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Florida Southern was out shot 5-4 by Spring Hill in the first half as goalkeeper, Gohier was forced to make two saves.
- Meehan led the way for the Mocs as the senior tallied four shots on the day two being on goal.
- The only other FSC player that was able to get a shot on goal was Nick Dittmer who came on hot of the bench to take the only other shot on goal
- In the second half, Gohier faced five shots on goal and diving for three saves.
- In total the Mocs were only out shot by three as Southern had 10 to the Badgers 13.
- There was four cards on the day all coming in from FSC as Julian Jordan-Canosa, Eric Brody, Jake Starling, and Meehan all added a yellow card to their resume.
