Women's Tennis Compete at Saint Leo Hidden Duals

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's tennis team competed in the Saint Leo Hidden Duals this past weekend in their last meet before the 2022 spring season. 
 
The tournament featured singles and doubles from Rollins College, Saint Leo University, Hillsborough Community College (HCC), and Florida Southern.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Laura Vetter won her first match against Mbali Langa in a 6-2/7-5 victory, but lost her next match in a tie-breaking third set. Her last match was a loss to her Saint Leo opponent.
  • Minnie Kim had a close match against Arina Gamretaia, which Kim would take in a third set tie-breaker. Her second match was another third-set battle, but lost to Polina Vlasova, as well as her third match against Lavinia Lancellotti.
  • After three sets, Olivia Bryant was just short in a match against Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya, but rebounded in a win against Eve Wasil from Rollins. Her last match in the tournament was a loss to Celina Ermann.
  • Vivien Charvatova beat Esmee Andresen in three sets in her first match of the tournament, but lost her tie-breaker set against Maria McKay from Rollins.
  • Kelly Klaren was unable to get a match win against Ita Habekovic, and after a tying set win, she lost to her opponent to Rollins the next match. Her next match against Saint Leo was close in the first set, but lost the match.
  • Eve Robinson lost to Camilla Mitolo, and after a close second set, lost to Erin Yaroshuk of Rollins in her second match as well as her last match against Saint Leo.
  • After two sets, Karyna Bazilevych lost her first match against Alicia Gomez, and her second match against Ligay and HCC opponent Camilla Mitolo.
  • In a tie-breaker third set, Mathilda Vidgren just missed out on a win against Nina Furmaniak.
  • For doubles, pairing of Kim/Charvatova and Bryant/Bazilevych lost their Friday matches, but Kim/Charvatova rebounded for a Saturday win.
  • Vetter/Maxima Ellenberg won their first match against Rollins, with Klaren and Robinson winning their first as well. Klaren teamed with Bryant against HCC in a loss Saturday. Bryant/Robinson lost a close match on Sunday against HCC.
  • Vetter paired with Vidgren in a loss on Saturday against Saint Leo and loss against HCC on Sunday, as Ellenberg and Robinson paired for a loss against Saint Leo as well.
  • Kim partnered with Klaren in a close loss against HCC Sunday, as Charvatova and Ellenberg lost on Sunday against HCC.

  • The Mocs had three singles match wins and three doubles match wins
  • Tournament marked the last meet before their spring season
 
UP NEXT
The Mocs will begin their 2022 spring campaign in a weekend matchup against the University of Tampa February 4th-6th in Tampa.
