LAKELAND, Fl. – The Florida Southern College men's soccer team came out hot with a two goal lead at halftime and held on for a 2-1 conference win against Florida Tech Saturday night.
The Moccasins fired from the beginning with three strong shots until
Edu Capote had a quick pass to
Christoph Gums and found
Luca Bernoth to score the first goal of the game in the 18
th minute. After steady defense by both sides, Florida Southern (2-6-3, 1-4-1) scored their second goal after a pass from
Sam Michaels to
James Meehan who found space and found the net off the left foot. The Panthers (4-4-0, 1-3-0) were unable to get shots going as the Mocs kept the 2-0 lead at halftime.
Florida Tech scored within the first two minutes of the second half after a Juan Masqueda pass into the box went off a Moccasin's foot to Florida Tech's Guillermo Segovia who headed the ball in for the score. After a brief officials meeting, the header off the crossbar was confirmed to cross the line for a score. Florida Southern continued to keep pressure with four more shots in the half, before they switched to a defensive lineup and keep the Panthers down. Mocs keeper
Mars Gohier was tested toward the end of the half, but came away with two saves in the second half to earn the Moccasins their first conference win of the season 2-1 over Florida Tech.

- Bernoth earned his second goal of the season in the 18th minute after quick passes from Gum and Capote.
- In the 25th minute, Meehan scored his fourth goal of the season to put the score 2-0 at halftime.
- To start the second half, Panthers scored off a header by Segovia narrowing the lead 2-1.
- Mocs keeper Gohier had two saves in the second half to keep the score 2-1
- A red card with 15 minutes remaining in the match put the Panthers down a man.
- A defensive shift in the lineup toward the end of the half prevented any scores by the Panthers.
