Brinton Sets New School Record as Mocs Women's Swimming Sweeps Saint Leo

LAKELAND, Fla. – Freshman Allie Brinton broke her own school record in the 200-yard butterfly on Friday afternoon, as the Florida Southern College women's swimming team defeating visiting Saint Leo University in two separate meets,71-48, and 83-21.
Brinton swan the 200-fly today in 2:04.73, breaking her own record, by three seconds, which was set earlier this season, on February 12. Interestingly, finishing second in the 200-fly was classmate Nele Stroebel, whose time of 2:05.08 today also surpassed Brinton's prior record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Meet 1:
  • The Mocs got off to a fast start, with the "A" 200-free relay team of freshman Emily Peck, classmate Stephanie Suarez, junior Grace Sill, and freshman Brooke Brennan swimming unopposed, finishing with a time of 1:41.16.
  • Freshman Jasmin Hoffmann and senior Maria Di Bella then finished 1-2 in the 50-free, in 23.81 and 24.42, respectively.
  • Freshman Morgan Champagne and junior Erin McCann placed second and third in the 1000-free, before sophomore Morgan Misenar claimed first place in the 200-free.
  • Suarez would return to take second place in the 100-breast I 1:06.92, before the Brinton-Strobel feat in the 200-fly.
Meet 2:
  • The 100-free opened the second meet of the day, with the Mocs sweeping the podium. Hoffman, DiBella, and McCann pulled off the feat, with Hoffman finishing in 51.55.
  • Freshman Teagan Michalek and Sill finished second and third in the 200-back, while Peck and sophomore Annalise Eisold placed first and second in the 200-breast.
  • Misenar claimed her second distance win of the day, winning the 500-free in 5:11.34. She was followed by Champagne and McCann, in that order.
  • The 100-fly was perhaps the closest race of the day, with Strobel beating Brinton by less than a second. Strobel finished in 57.02, followed by Brinton in 57.95.
  • Peck and Eisold swam unopposed in the 200-IM, with Peck claiming her first win on the day.
