LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College baseball team fell to 4-3 on the season following a 12-9 loss against the Rollins College Tars on Friday night at Historic Henley Field. Center fielder
Vaun Brown reached base in all six plate appearances, hitting two home runs, scoring four times while adding five RBI. He would finish the game going 5-5 at the plate with a walk, falling a triple shy of the cycle. Brown's six home runs and 12 runs scored now lead the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Tars opened up the scoring with a solo home run by first baseman Jack Gonzalez in the top of the first inning.
- FSC would tie things up at one, as senior Jacob Teter drove a ball off the left center wall, allowing Brown to score from second.
- Rollins would retake the lead in the second as FSC starter Andrew Williamson hit a batter with the bases loaded.
- The Mocs took their only lead of the game when they scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning, as two batters scored on a Teter sac-fly and subsequent Rollins throwing error.
- Rollins would score five runs in the top of the third, taking a 7-3 lead that the Mocs would not be able to overcome.
- Brown would homer in consecutive at bats, hitting a solo shot in the sixth, and a two-run shot in the seventh which scored freshman Grady Maguire. He became the first Moc to accomplish that feat since teammate Alan Burnsed did so on March 16, 2019, at Eckerd.
- Brown would again deliver for the Mocs, hitting a two-run single in the ninth, scoring Kyler Marquis and Teter.
- Williamson took the loss for FSC, while Carson Hauben picked up the win and Steven Swift earned the save for Rollins.
