WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Florida Southern College baseball team saw their three-game losing streak come to an end as they picked up a 5-2 win against the Rollins College Tars at Alfond Stadium. Mocs starting pitcher
Jarrod Cande struck out five Tars over six innings while
J.J. Niekro earned the win and
Thomas Spinelli picked up his first save of the season.
The eighth inning proved to be the turning point as center fielder
Vaun Brown hit his Sunshine State Conference leading seventh home run of the season, which was followed by a two-run blast by first baseman
Jacob Teter. Teter hit two home runs in the game, giving him 31 for his career, which is good for fifth all time in FSC history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Left fielder Alan Burnsed opened up the scoring for the Mocs with a two out RBI single in the top of the first.
- Tars leadoff man Nick Santucci evened things up at one in the bottom of the first as he hit the first pitch he saw over the fence.
- Teter would hit his 30th career home run as he gave the Mocs a 2-1 lead with a solo shot in the sixth.
- Once again, Rollins answered back and tied the game up at 2-2 in the bottom of the inning.
- FSC would take the lead for good in the eighth inning thanks to a pair of home runs. Brown hit his SSC leading seventh home run of the season to once again give the Mocs the lead.
- Teter would add a two-run shot, scoring Dylan Costa and giving the Mocs a 5-2 lead. He now has 31 home runs in his career, which is good for fifth all time in FSC history.
- Thomas Spinelli would come on to close things out for FSC, picking up his first save of the season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- With the win, FSC improves to 5-3 on the season and 4-1 in conference play
- Teter is now fifth all time in FSC history with 31 career home runs.
