Mocs Baseball Drops Series Finale Against Rollins

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern baseball team dropped the decisive game of their weekend series against the Rollins Tars by a final of 6-5 on Sunday afternoon. Starting pitcher Nathan Madej struck out nine Tars over his 6.2 innings of work. Mocs infielders made several defensive gems over the course of the game, but it was not enough as Rollins took a late lead as Adams Torres hit a go-ahead grand slam in the ninth inning. With the loss, FSC falls to 5-4 on the season and 4-2 in Sunshine State Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team scored until the bottom of the third inning, as senior Zach Scott would hit a two-run double to left center, giving the Mocs the lead.
  • Rollins would answer back in the fifth, as shortstop Drew Howard hit a two-run home run to left. This would account for the only runs given up by Madej.
  • Mocs senior Tor Sehnert lifted his sixth home run of the season to lead off the sixth inning as FSC would retake the lead.
  • Center fielder Vaun Brown would drive in the fourth run of the game for FSC as he hit a sacrifice fly to left center field.
  • Thomas Spinelli would come on in relief for the Mocs, pitching 2.2 innings out of the bullpen. He would allow the go-ahead grand slam to Torres that gave Rollins the lead for good.
  • The Mocs would battle in the bottom of the ninth, as first baseman Jacob Teter drove in Brown to make it a 6-5 game.
  • FSC would end the game with the tying and go-ahead runners stranded on first and second.
