WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Jarrod Cande spun five perfect innings on the mound, while senior
Jacob Teter launched two of FSC's four home runs, as the visiting Florida Southern College baseball team won at Palm Beach Atlantic, 11-2, on Thursday night. The game was the 2021 season opener for both programs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mocs scored early and often, plating runs in six different innings.
- With two outs in the top of the first, Teter pulled a fastball deep over the right field wall in his first at bat of the season. The solo shot gave the Mocs the early 1-0 lead.
- In the third, left fielder Alan Burnsed doubled with the bases loaded, plating Dylan Costa and Connor Berry.
- Meanwhile, Cande was spinning a gem on the mound, striking out eight batters through five perfect innings. He earned the win by facing the minimum 15 batters.
- In the fourth, junior Tor Sehnert hit a solo homer to left, before Teter hit his second solo shot of the evening, again to right field.
- In the top of the sixth, the Mocs batted around, scoring five runs on two hits, while taking advantage of three walks and two PBA errors.
- After the Sailfish managed a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, leadoff hitter Vaun Brown hit the fourth Moc solo home run of the night, for an added insurance run.
- Sophomore Collin Camarigg threw two innings on the mound, allowing both PBA runs, before junior Michael DeSanti and junior Thomas Spinelli each threw scoreless innings to complete the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Teter now has 28 homeruns in his FSC career.
- Teter accounted for three RBI, while Burnsed two.
- Six different Mocs accounted for 11 base hits, led by Cade Shissler's three-hit performance.
- FSC had five extra base hits. In addition to the four homers, Shissler doubled in the seventh.
UP NEXT
The Mocs wil finish the series with PBA n Sunday, March 7, with a doubleheader in Lakeland. The games were moved to Sunday from Saturday, due to impending inclement weather.
