SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Florida Southern baseball team improved to 10-6 on the season after defeating the Saint Leo Lions by a final of 13-5 on Wednesday night. The Mocs offense recorded 18 hits, with seven out of the nine starters notching multi-hit efforts. FSC also scored in seven straight innings after being shut out through the first two frames of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions got on the board first scoring an early run off of Mocs starter Nathan Madej.
- FSC answered back in the third as the Mocs scored three runs on four hits, highlighted by an RBI double from third baseman Zach Scott.
- Saint Leo bounced back in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs and tying the game up at 3-3.
- In the fourth FSC took the lead for good as five Mocs crossed the plate. The Mocs had four extra base hits in the inning including doubles by Scott, Joe Raffaele, and Vaun Brown. Shortstop Grady Maguire also launched a two-run homer for his first collegiate home run.
- In the fifth first baseman Tilden Agee hit his second home run in as many games, giving the Mocs a 9-3 lead.
- Madej struck out five batters over his five innings of work, earning his third win of the season.
- The Mocs would add one run per inning in the seventh, eighth, and ninth as they continued to add to their lead.
- Thomas Spinelli and Pablo Toranzo threw four scoreless innings of relief for the Mocs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- With the win, FSC improved to 9-5 in Sunshine State Conference action.
- FSC now leads the all-time series against Saint Leo 135-56
- Connor Berry extended his team-leading hit streak to eight games, while Dylan Costa extended his streak to six.
- The Mocs have now won three straight games, and five or their last six.
