Mocs Baseball Sweeps Lynn with Timely Hitting

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Southern College baseball team swept a doubleheader at Lynn University on Friday, 12-10 and 4-2. The Mocs are now 7-5 overall, and 6-4 in the SSC, on the season, while the Knights are 5-8, 4-7 SSC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
  • The Mocs scored in five of the first six innings, to take a commanding 12-4 lead.
  • In the first inning, centerfielder Vaun Brown singled down the line to lead off the game, and advanced all the way to third on Lynn errors. He then scored on a wild pitch.
  • In the top of the second, again it was Brown, as he blasted a three-run homerun to right center.
  • Lynn plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, making the score 4-2, in favor of Florida Southern.
  • Senior Zach Scott then send another souvenir over the outfield wall, scoring Jacob Teter and himself.
  • Lynn got two runs back in the bottom the third, for a 6-4 Mocs lead.
  • Moving to the sixth inning, junior Tor Sehnert led off the inning with a solo homerun, chasing the Lynn starter.
  • Scott was up next who greeted the new pitcher with his second homerun of the game. Mocs led 8-4.
  • Nick Wells, Dylan Costa, and Brown would also score in the inning, for an 11-4 lead.
  • Scott would homer again in the sixth, for the final Florida Southern run of the game.
  • Jarrod Cande started for the Mocs on the mound, going 5.1 innings, allowing seven runs on five hits to earn the win. Collin Camarigg went 1.2, and J.J. Niekro finished out the final two innings to earn the save.
GAME TWO
  • Florida Southern starter Nathan Madej pitched well, scattering seven hits over five innings to earn the win.
  • Lynn opened the scoring in the third, taking a 1-0 lead.
  • In the top of the fourth, Wells joined in on the long ball brigade, hitting his first home run of the season to deep center, scoring Teter ahead of himself, and the Mocs led 2-1.
  • Forwarding on the top of the seventh, Joe Raffaele singled home Grayson Skweres and Connor Berry with no outs, and the Mocs took a 4-2 lead.
  • Thomas Spinelli entered the game to pitch the ninth, and earned the save in the 4-3 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Mocs have now hit 27 home runs through 12 games. Shehnert and Brown each have eight to lead the team.
  • Madej and Cande each have two wins on the mound this season.
