Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls to No. 9 West Florida on PK in 108th Minute

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern women's soccer took on the ninth-ranked Argonauts of West Florida in its final non-conference match before starting conference play. The Mocs defense came up strong as Jenny Staten made numerus saves to keep the game scoreless through more than 107 minutes of play.

Southern is now 3-2 on the season, after opening the season with three-straight victories. No. 9 West Florida improves to 4-0 for 2021.

How It Happened
  • West Florida had come in to the game having scored in the first 10 minutes of its previous three games this season, which included in the fourth minutes the past two games. UWF's Olivia Pope sent a ball on target to try and keep that streak alive but Staten was right there to make her first save of the morning.
  • Freshman Elena Brkic had the Mocs first scoring chance as her shot in the 24th minute was the only save for the West Florida keeper in the first half.
  • Staten made three more save on the Argonauts in the first half to keep the game scoreless.
  • West Florida put the pressure on the Mocs right out of the gate to start the second half but Staten was there to make some game saving saves. In the 69th minute, Staten made her third save of the second half.
  • The Argos offense upped its pressure as they fired off two straight shots nearly a minute apart in the final minutes of regulation but both shots were off target.
  • West Florida was the only team to record a shot in the first overtime as Destiny Hirds shot was fired over the right side of the goal.
  • The Mocs defense made some key stops on the Argos shots forcing them off target. The Mocs offense was met by the Argos defense who made sure to get the possession back in their offensive zone.
  • A late foul in the box by the Mocs set the Argos up for a penalty shot. UWF's Blair Cowan was able to find the back of the net to give the visitors the win in the 108th minute.
