Men's Soccer Earns 0-0 Draw in 2021 Season Opener

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Florida Southern men's soccer team (0-0-1) earned a hard-fought draw in the 2021 season opener, as the team traveled to face the University of Alabama Huntsville on Thursday night. Senior Mars Gohier made four saves between the posts in his debut with the Mocs. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UAH jumped to the attack early, but Gohier was quick to make the save during the third minute of action. 
  • The Mocs' first shot on goal came in the 17th minute from Luca Bernoth just missing the bottom left corner of the goal and land into the hands of the Chargers keeper.
  • Daniel Miranda had the only other shot of the first half going just high on the goal. 
  • During the second half FSC took their shot first as Christoph Gums shot was right down the center but stopped by UAH goalie. 
  • Edu Capote had the final shot of the night for the Mocs' in the 73rd minute to set up for double overtime.
  • Keeper, Gohier held the score at 0-0 to close out the first game of the season with a double-overtime tie. 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The teams combined for a total of 13 shots in the first half and only two apiece in the second. 
  • The match was very physical, with six total yellow cards and one red card. Booked from Florida Southern were Miranda, Leoluca Diefenbach, Anthony Hroncich, and the red from Bernoth. 
  • FSC committed 20 fouls, while UAH committed 15.
  • Between the posts, Gohier made four saves. The Chargers keeper made only two. 
  • Bernoth and Gums led Southern with 1 shot, each being shots on target, while Miranda had the final shot.
