LAKELAND Fla. - The Florida Southern College men's soccer team opened up their home slate of Sunshine State Conference matchups with a 2-2 draw against Rollins University on Wednesday night. With the tie, the Mocs inherit a 1-3-3 overall record and move to 0-1-1 in conference action. The Tars now hold a 3-1-2 overall record and start the SSC 0-0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Florida Southern got on the board early when Alberto Diaz delivered a blast from outside the box that flew by the reach of a diving Rollins keeper.
- The Tars would equalize in the 27th minute, after a corner kick found the foot a a Rollins forward to tie the game up.
- Florida Southern reclaimed their lead at the midway point of the second half. Daniel Miranda fought off Rollins defenders and tapped a deflected cross in an open net from Leoluca Diefenbach.
- The Tars waited until late in the contest to grab their second tally. The Mocs missed on a chance to clear a low cross at the top of the box. The ball instead fell to midfielder sliding a low shot into the back of net and sent the game to overtime.
- The Mocs earned a pair of chances late in the second overtime making the Tars goalie work for their tie with a diving stop on the Florida Southern offense. A few shots produced from a set piece opportunity near the edge of the box, then shutting down a Florida Southern breakaway in the final seconds, capping the contest.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The teams combined for a total of 36 shots 22 from the Tars and 14 from the Mocs.
- Three Mocs finished the night with yellow cards as Santiago Erazo and Diefenbach received theirs in the second half and Ivan Manfredi received his in OT in the 98th minute.
- FSC combined for a total of nine fouls, while Rollins tagged on 20.
- Mars Gohier played the entire 110 minutes between the polls collecting 6 saves.
