LAKELAND Fla. - The Florida Southern College men's soccer team continued their home slate of Sunshine State Conference play when Nova Southeastern came to visit. The Mocs gave the No. 9 Sharks a hard fought battle but it was Nova that took home a 3-1 win over FSC on Saturday night. With the loss, the Mocs fall to a 1-4-3 overall and move to 0-2-1 in conference action. The Sharks now hold a 4-1-1 overall record and start the SSC 1-1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Florida Southern got on the board first when Nova Southeastern was called for a handball inside the box giving the Mocs their first penalty kick of the season.
- Senior, James Meehan took the PK for Florida Southern scoring in the left corner of the net just missing the diving the Sharks keeper to put the Mocs up 1-0.
- FSC lead 1-0 going into the second the half, until Henrik Berg shot was saved by the Mocs' keeper Mars Gohier but set up midfielder Tobias Pellio to tie the game at 1-1.
- Nova Southeastern took the lead during the 82nd minute when Berg connected with another Sharks midfielder Milos Christoforou to make it 2-1.
- Florida Southern's defense was no match for Nova's offense as Christoforou scored the final goal of the night to capture a 3-1 victory on the road.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The teams combined for a total of 22 shots, 16 from the Sharks and 7 from the Mocs only two being on goal for FSC.
- Two Mocs finished the night with consecutive yellow cards as Santiago Erazo received his card in the first half and Leoluca Diefenbach claimed his during 59th minute.
- FSC combined for a total of 11 fouls, while Nova tagged on nine.
- Gohier played the entire 90 minutes between the polls collecting 7 saves.
